Update on AWA Tennis Activities

Welcome Back Party
It was great to start the season off with a bang! We welcomed new and existing tennis members to our welcome back party on Thursday September 19 at the American Club. The haze during that time had not been kind to the tennis community but it did not put the ladies off, who still managed to play some social tennis despite it. We also enjoyed some delicious food and bubbles. New friendships were forged both on and off the court.

Team Tennis
Team Tennis is back. For 6 weeks (3 weeks before Christmas/New Year’s and 3 weeks after) you will have a chance to play on an AWA team against other members. Team Tennis emphasizes team play, sportsmanship and competition. This is one of the most competitive options from AWA Tennis, so players must have an AWA rating of at least 2.5.

Players are assigned to teams to achieve a competitive balance. This activity is played on Wednesday for the advanced group or Thursday for intermediate players, depending on past play and our court assessment. Intermediate and Advanced split placement will be determined once we have all participants signed up.

There will be a live draw of teams for both Intermediate and advanced on Wednesday November 20th. Location and other details will be announced closer to the starting date.

Match Dates: Nov. 27/28, Dec. 4/5, Dec. 11/12, Jan. 15/16, Jan. 22/23, Feb. 5/6 8:30 am – 12 noon (approx.)
Place: NUS Tennis Courts, 21 Lower Kent Ridge Road.

Assessment Dates
Remember if you wish to join in all the tennis fun, you’ll need a current assessment with AWA Tennis. Assessments are not just for new members. If you haven’t been assessed in a couple of years, it’s a good time to get one. Sign up online.

Dates: November 4 and 12
Time: 1:00pm – 2:30pm
